2018 - 2019
Still the Carriage Shed
Bad weather meant that we lost three working days this winter; after putting the railway to bed in early November we did not meet again until January. Another day was lost to the weather in February - the picture below tells the story.
Carriage Shed Progress
We made more progress than the previous winter :
- Roof finished
- Back door inserted
- Wood sides added
- Ground floor track laid
- Electric light provided (trench from signal box)
- Approach tracks laid
- Final touch : some coaches stored in the building
Additional Water Supply at Old Oak
Dave Marsh provided a surplus water tank which was installed behind the carriage shed with a view to it collecting rainfall from the building's roof.
The little used decorative water crane at Dingly was brought to Old Oak with a view to its connection to a pumped supply from the new tank.
The right hand picture shows Alan S laying the foundations for the column
which was as far as we got in our winter work.
Alternative route : Engine Shed and Dingly
The rails for this route were laid the previous year but were not used. A bufferstop blocked the way. This winter signalling was commissioned to allow both routes to be used.
Other Things
Although that completes the major tasks the two pictures below reflect the never ending need to replace the odd sleeper and keep the railway clear of debris.
